Why A Visit To Las Vegas Is Incomplete Without Going To Hoover Dam

A visit to the other city that never sleeps is incomplete without a visit to historic Hoover Dam. Only a short 30-40 minute drive from Las Vegas, Nevada, this massive structure is more than just an attractive, popular tourist destination. It’s a powerhouse, and it provides water and hydroelectricity to the Southwest.

Inside the Behemoth

Anyone is welcome to enter the visitor center and stroll along the walkways. To get a glimpse of the inner workings of the dam, however, you must purchase a tour.

Currently, there are two types: the Powerplant Tour and the Dam Tour.
The Powerplant Tour costs $15 per adult ($12 for seniors, children, non-uniformed military personnel). It takes about 30 minutes and takes you as far as the powerplant only, with access to the Visitors Center.

The Dam Tour takes an hour and will give you access to the Visitors Center, the powerplant, and the passageways within the dam itself.

Need help deciding which tour to do?

Do the Dam Tour!
Yes, it’s more expensive, but you get to learn more from your tour guide, and you get to go through the nifty passageways within the dam.

For more details on pricing, times, etc., go to the Bureau of Reclamation’s information page.
